In the title poem, "Exquisite Monsters," the reader is encouraged to rip up the perforated pages and remix the poems.

The poem also tells the reader to create their own illustrations.

In addition to winning the Geist Erasure Poetry contest, the poem "Strange"/"My Word" also appeared in an English PEN anthology in support of the Russian activist group Pussy Riot. The anthology was translated into Russian.
