I've been a writer forever and an active writing teacher and mentor since 2008.
Poetry wasn't my first genre, and it won't be my last. I've always been a reader and viewer of both popular and literary stories, growing up obsessed with Alice in Wonderland, Anne of Green Gables, and Jane Eyre. (Later, in adulthood: Buffy, the Vampire Slayer.)
I've also done stints in book publishing and as a communications officer, writing, researching, editing, and managing print and web production.
I really love school. I've got an MA in English Literature from the University of Ottawa and an MFA in Creative Writing from the University of British Columbia.
I've lived in Winnipeg since 2005, but I often still think of myself as Albertan.
The other Karen Press is a South African poet older, wiser, and much more important than me.
